Justice Act given final approval

An updated Administration of Justice Act, also known as the Procedural Code, will come into force on 1 January 2021.
Danish MPs yesterday voted unanimously in favour of the new act, which is one of the most comprehensive acts in the Danish Kingdom.
Containing more than 1,100 provisions, it includes regulations on how legal processes should be conducted and details on how the police and the national prosecution service should handle criminal cases.

When Faroese MPs passed the act at the end of last year, Prime Minister Bárður á Steig said: “This act is a joint affair between Danish and Faroese authorities, and as such it makes good sense that we bring the Faroese regulations in line with those being practised in Denmark.”
Nick Hækkerup, the Danish Minister of Justice, said yesterday that the new law will ensure an up-to-date police force, more solidity in the rule of law and improved processing of civil court cases.
“This is a great day for the Faroese court system,” said the Danish minister.
