False fire alarm causes distress in Tórshavn

Residents in Tórshavn’s west end were abruptly woken up to a loud and distressing fire alarm in the early hours of this morning.
At 1:14am, police received a report of the fire alarm at the Glasir college building going off, with a voice instructing everyone inside to leave the building.
Police and fire fighters arrived at the scene shortly after, only to find that there was no fire and that the alarm had been set off due to a technical error.
The alarm was heard across a large area of Tórshavn’s west end and went on for about 30 minutes before it was turned off.
Here is a sound bite of the alarm:
UPDATE 12:39pm: The alarm was triggered by smoke from maintenance work inside the building.
