Immediately after the sentence was passed, the man appealed the sentence and the guilty verdict to the High Court. His defendant called for a six-year jail term.
The prosecution, which wanted a ten-year jail term, is also planning to appeal the sentence.
According to the new procedural code, in effect since 1 January this year, it is now possible to appeal both a sentence and a verdict. The previous law only allowed for an appeal of the sentence.
