Clothing sales up 59 percent

All three retail commodity groups saw increased year-on-year sales in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
Sales in the ‘groceries and non-alcoholic drinks’ commodity group increased by 6 percent from Q1 2020 to Q1 2021, while prices went up by 0.4 percent.

The ‘furnishings and household equipment’ group enjoyed a 21-percent increase in sales over this period, with prices increasing by 1 percent.
The biggest increase by far, however, was in the ‘clothing and footwear’ commodity group, which saw an increase of 59 percent from Q1 2020 to Q1 2021. Prices increased by 3 percent in this period.
