Eight Viking graves in the Faroes

It has long been believed that there are only three Viking graves in the Faroe Islands – one in Sandur, one in Hvalba and one in Tjørnuvík.
But having gone through material and data stored at the National Museum, archaeologist Ann Sølvia Selmarsdóttir Purkhús has now concluded that there are another five Viking graves in the country.
These are located in Fugloy, Svínoy, Sandavágur and Hov.
The photos, courtesy of the Faroese National Museum, were captured in the 1950s at the Viking excavation site in Tjørnuvík.
