Russian warplanes spotted near Faroese border
UK Royal Air Force jets yesterday intercepted and escorted four Russian warplanes approaching what the air force calls “the UK area of interest”.
The Russian ‘Bear’ bombers did not enter the UK sovereign airspace, but they were reportedly intercepted north of Scotland and west of the Shetland Islands.

Sjúrður Skaale, Faroese member of the Danish Parliament, has asked the Danish defence ministry for information about the incident and whether the Russian jets entered Faroese airspace.
An area of interest includes international airspace for which a country is to some degree responsible, such as provision of air traffic control.
