No need to stock up on iodine pills
The Faroes face no significant risk of nuclear radiation, says minister

Fears of possible nuclear attacks in Ukraine have prompted a run on iodine pills in Danish pharmacies.

In an effort to secure sufficient supplies to cover at-risk groups, Danish health authorities have announced plans to purchase up to two million iodine tablets.

But the Faroese health authorities are not planning to follow suit.

“We are not at an increased risk here in the Faroes,” says health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen.

“Even if nuclear weapons were to be deployed in the war in Ukraine, the likelihood of radiation reaching the Faroes is very low.”
