A three-week campaign against careless driving, with a special focus on monitoring mobile phone use on the roads, begins today.

This is a continuation of the campaign launched in October last year.

Police have so far this year registered 141 cases involving driving with handheld electronic devices.

This figure was 295 last year, 373 in 2020, 247 in 2019 and 432 in 2018.

With the current regulations, drivers caught driving while using a handheld device are fined DKK 1,000.

In a recent traffic safety survey, 47 percent of respondents said that carelessness was the main cause of traffic accidents. Only speeding was believed to be a more common cause.

The survey also revealed that one in five respondents regularly drive while using a handheld device.
