Young handballers qualify for world championship
The Faroese Under-20 men’s national handball team pulled off four wins in seven games in the European Men's Under-20 Handball Championship.
This was enough to qualify for next year’s junior world championships to be jointly hosted by Germany and Greece.
“Next year, these young men will consolidate their position as one of the top 10 national handball teams in the world,” says sports commentator Sjúrður Hildarson Hoydal.
Following wins against four big handball nations – Denmark, Norway, Poland and Italy – one of the Faroese coaches, Julian Johansen, says his team has proved its worth on the international handball stage.

“It is clear by now that many handball nations would rather not be drawn against us in international competitions,” he says.
“After seven games in only nine days, our players now need a well-deserved rest.”
Two other Faroese national handball teams will be competing in international tournaments this summer. From 30 July to 10 August, the U-18 women’s team will be playing in the IHF Women's Youth (U18) Handball World Championship, and the U-18 men’s team will play in the M18 EHF EURO 2022 in Montenegro in August.
