Young handballers continue to impress
Great results keep rolling in for the Faroese Under-20 men’s national handball team.
On Thursday, the Faroese side caused a sensation by beating Denmark 33-32.
They then conceded a narrow 27-28 defeat to Slovenia and were outclassed by Hungary with a 21-40 defeat.
They subsequently picked up their game against Norway yesterday, winning by a score of 33-31. And today they topped it all off with a 38-32 win over Poland.
One game to go
Today’s win was crucial for qualification to next summer’s Men's Junior World Handball Championship. The Faroes will now play in the 9th-12th place semi-finals. The top ten teams will qualify for the world championship.
After today’s win, the Faroese team has already qualified for next year’s U-20 European championship as a top 13 spot in this year’s championship guarantees qualification.
The world championship qualification will be decided on Friday and Saturday. The Faroese side will be playing the winner of group I2 in which Iceland, Croatia and Italy are eyeing the top spot.
