Bridging the gap between young and old
New pilot project aims to attract more young people to work in elderly care

Tórshavn municipality is hiring 14-17-year-olds to work in elderly care homes.

The young people will be engaging in various social activities with residents, such as playing games, going for walks, reading together, baking or simply chatting.

The Tjarnargarður elderly care home will be the first one to participate in the project, with an as yet unspecified number of young people working two hours every weekday.

Following a project evaluation after six months, the plan is to hire young people to work in other elderly care homes in the capital region.
