Dispute on Michelin restaurant location settled
Double Michelin-starred restaurant KOKS will be allowed to continue its activities in a house near lake Leynavatn, Streymoy

29.06.2020 - 04:42

The National Trust has backflipped on last year’s decision to order KOKS to move out of its Leynavatn premises.

In 2018, Gist og Vist, the company behind the world-famous restaurant, was given a temporary dispensation from the rule that the area near Leynavatn, which was preserved in 1983, was not to be used for restaurant activity.

This dispensation expired on 1 September last year, and despite numerous attempts by the restaurant management to extend the deadline, the restaurant was told in March last year to move out of the house by 1 September.

After pressure from the public, the local nature conservation board and even from the landowner, the National Trust has now reversed this decision, which means that KOKS can continue its activities in the area indefinitely.

The National Trust board ruled that the restaurant activity has not disturbed the surrounding nature or wildlife, and that the refurbished house does not disfigure the countryside.
