Man dies in traffic accident

Shortly after 10pm last night, a car hit a 70-year-old man at a pedestrian crossing near Tórshavn’s Vesturkirkjan church.

An ambulance arrived at the scene quickly and took the man to the National Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Police are still trying to determine the cause of the accident, but there are no indications of the young driver having driven under the influence of any illegal substance.

Witnesses and others are being interviewed today.
