Women at the helm in Vestmanna

Vestmanna town council has unanimously appointed Bjørg á Rógvi as the town’s new mayor, following Pauli Trond Petersen’s resignation earlier this week.
The deputy mayor, the treasurer, the secretary and four out of seven town council members are also women, as are all but one committee conveners.
Focus on soft values
“Our citizens will be feeling this change with women at the helm. There will be more focus on the soft values and the well-being of all our citizens, young and old,” says the new mayor.
“One specific issue I aim to fix is that I want to make it easier for elderly people who live in their own homes to get around the town because we have no taxis in Vestmanna.”
All the women in the new town council yesterday headed to Tórshavn’s Nordic House for a panel discussion about women in politics.
