Winter school breaks planned for next year

The government is looking into the possibility of giving schoolchildren one week off in February.
There are two main reasons for this initiative, says Djóni Nolsøe Joensen, the Minister of Children and Education.
“Some pupils’ parents live abroad, and a week off from school in February would make it easier for these families to organise their schedules,” he says.
“Another, more general, reason is that the period between Christmas and Easter can seem a bit long for some pupils. Perhaps some breathing space during that period might help increase their motivation to study.”
If all goes to plan, the winter break will be introduced next year. However, the minister acknowledges that it may take longer to make such a comprehensive change to the school system.
