Puffin population on the rebound

The Faroese seabird population appears to be rebounding after a long period of decline.
The number of puffins in places such as Trøllanes, Skúvoy and Viðareiði has increased significantly recent years, according to locals.
Trøllanes resident Eyðun Eliasen estimates that there are currently about 2,000 puffins near his village.
“We are seeing a lot more seabirds on the bird cliffs now, especially puffins, but there is also an increase in guillemots and kittiwakes,” he says.
“When the situation was at its worst, we saw hundreds of dead baby seabirds in the nesting burrows. But now it’s looking much better.”
