Four suspected drug rape cases in one night

This weekend, four young women reported to police that they suspect their drinks had been spiked and that they may have been subjected to sexual assault.
Police say all four incidents occurred at the same nightlife establishment at around the same time.
“Drug rape is defined as rape or attempted rape in which the perpetrator spikes the victim's drink or food with narcotic substances with the intent to impair the victim's ability to give consent to sexual activity,” explains Heri Andreasen, the head of criminal investigations at the Faroese police.

“The four reports we received this weekend came independently of each other, and the stories are very similar. We suspect their drinks have been spiked.”
He adds that further investigations are needed to determine if the women were raped.
“The women experienced what is known as ‘blackout’ and thus have no recollection of what happened to them,” he says.

“We have sent blood samples to a Danish laboratory to determine which drugs were ingested and whether rape was involved.”
Drug rape is not uncommon in the Faroes, he adds, and there may well be cases that are not reported to the police.
“Our advice for people visiting bars and clubs: do not accept drinks that are offered to you and always keep a close eye on your drink.”
