Divorced parents learn to bridge communication gap

The Family Law Administration (Familjufyrisitingin) has launched a course for divorced or separated parents.
Informed by research, the free-of-charge course aims to equip parents with the tools and knowledge necessary to enhance their cooperation during a period that is usually difficult for children.
The parental communication course has three main focus areas:
1. Parental cooperation – how to strengthen cooperation and communication regarding children.
2. Children – how to improve support of the children during and after a divorce/separation.
3. Self-care – how parents can look after themselves during and after divorce/separation.

This is a pedagogical course with relevant exercises for participants. The Family Law Administration is keen to point out that the course is not to be regarded as:
• Couples therapy.
• Psychological counselling.
• Family counselling.
• Mediation.
• Child-centred divorce counselling.
The first course, starting in February 2024, is delivered over three days of four-hour instruction.
The Family Law Administration website has some information in English, but the section relating to the course (including a registration form) is in Faroese only.
