The government is planning to start work on the ‘Norður um Fjall’ tunnels ahead of schedule.

According to the original plan, work on new tunnels Norður um Fjall (Klaksvík-Árnafjørður and Árnafjørður-Norðtoftir) will not start until 2022.

However, the project cannot wait that long, says the government, which is currently working on a plan to push it forward.

Despite limited investment, government officials are working hard to update the investment plan so that the preparation work can be completed as early as next year. This could mean that the project would be completed two years ahead of schedule.
