KOKS, one of the world’s most remote gourmet restaurants, received a second Michelin star at yesterday’s awards ceremony in Aarhus, Denmark.

To add to the honours, KOKS’ head chef Poul Andrias Ziska was also named the young Nordic chef of the year.

“This came as a huge surprise to us,” says Ziska. “We attended the awards ceremony mostly to meet people and sample the local cuisine here in Aarhus. And to be voted the best young Nordic chef just takes my breath away!”

Worth a detour

Michelin stars are awarded according to these general criteria:

One star: “A very good restaurant in its category”

Two stars: “Excellent cooking, worth a detour”

Three stars: “Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”

KOKS is now part of an elite group of less than 500 restaurants worldwide that have been awarded two Michelin stars.
