Work starts on Dalur tunnel
Transport minister Heðin Mortensen will dig the first sod of soil on the Húsavík side of the new Sandoy tunnel this afternoon

Work to drill a tunnel between Húsavík and Dalur, Sandoy starts today at 4pm. The tunnel will be 2,200 metres long and eight metres wide.

In addition to the tunnel, 200 metres of road will be constructed on the Húsavík side and 100 metres on the Dalur side. Three kilometres of the existing road will be widened.

The project costs are estimated at DKK 75-85 million, and the tunnel will be completed in four years’ time if everything goes according to plan.
