International green energy project in the Faroes
A team of 23 students representing five countries has been looking into new ways to develop sustainable energy solutions in the Faroes

From 13 to 21 May, a group of university students from five countries has been examining the challenges related to reorganising the Faroese energy system.

Titled ‘The International Community Energy Challenge’, the project is a collaboration between Faroese institutions and five universities with the aim of developing ideas for new solutions for sustainable energy supply on land and at sea.

Energy industry represented

The participating universities are Prince Edward Island University (Canada), Háskóli Íslands (Iceland), Heriot-Watt University (UK), Høgskulen på Vestlandet (Norway) and the University of the Faroe Islands.

The participants from the Faroese energy industry were Bakkafrost, KJ-Hydraulik, Strandfaraskip Landsins, Tórshavn City Council, Nólsoy Energy Association and the Environment Agency.

The project was based in the new entrepreneurial hub Sjóvinnuhúsið at the port of Tórshavn. NORA (the North Atlantic Cooperation) and the Hydrogen Learning Network sponsored the project.
