Faroes are not a climate-friendly nation

The initial target was to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent from 2005 to 2020.

We are far from reaching this target, as carbon emissions have increased 10 percent compared with 2005 levels. 

The total annual greenhouse gas emissions in the Faroe Islands have now topped one million tonnes. This figure includes emissions from foreign ships in Faroese waters.

Ninety percent of the total carbon emissions in the Faroes stems from oil, while the remaining 10 percent comes from agriculture and strong greenhouse gases used primarily for cooling in industrial appliances.
