A proposal for DKK 2.8 million in supplementary funding for family support was presented to Parliament yesterday.

Additional grants have been allocated for family support twice this year. The first included an extra grant of DKK 2m, which was earmarked for the 2019 budget. The second included DKK 3m extra for family support, but this amount has yet to be approved.

The government says an extra grant of DKK 2.8 million will be needed to cover family support costs this year.

Almost 400 claimants last year

The number of family support claimants has seen a steady increase since January 2017.

This spring, the monthly payment to low-income family support claimants increased by DKK 2,000, meaning that a family with one child can be paid a monthly tax-free allowance of up to DKK 4,000. The monthly payment increases by DKK 500 for each additional child.

Last year, 391 people received family support. In 2017, the number was 365, and in 2016 it was 319.

Both single providers and couples with children are eligible for family support.
