Work resumes on grove in Klaksvík
Excavators are back in action after construction work was interrupted by accidental damage to antiquities buried in the soil

On Monday, the National Museum ordered the suspension of construction work on a new grove in Akursmørk, Klaksvík. The reason was that excavators had inadvertently damaged period pieces from the oldest settlement in Klaksvík.

Representatives from the National Museum will be present at the construction site over the next few days to ensure that the recent blunders are not repeated.

The excavation work was scheduled for completion in mid-June, but now a two-week delay is expected.

Once this part of the project is completed, the city gardener will start decorating the area.

“We want our new grove to reflect the beautiful Faroese landscape, so we will be planting flowers and trees that are characteristic of the Faroe Islands,” says Kristian Eli Zachariasen, chairman of Klaksvík City Council’s Environmental and Town Planning Committee.
