Mediators will bring a draft settlement before the disputing parties in the GP strike talks this afternoon.

The General Practitioners’ Association and the Ministry of Finance were called in for a meeting with the Conciliation Board at 1pm today.

The Conciliation Board has now divided its forces into two separate teams:

Mediators Terje Sigurðsson and Rannvá Ragnarsdóttir are holding talks with the GPs and the finance ministry in the Skibsted warehouse by the Vágsbotn marina.

Símun Absalonsen and Páll Isholm are conducting the negotiations between five workers’ unions and the Employers’ Association at Hotel Hafnia.

The contracts in both of these disputes have been extended until tomorrow at midnight.

It is unusual for a strike to be called while the Conciliation Board remains involved in the talks. A strike announcement must be made at least 48 hours before any strike action can take place.
