GP strike called off
The threat of a GP strike is now over after a three-month standoff.
Around noon today, the General Practitioners’ Association and the Ministry of Finance signed an agreement to renew the existing contract for a further three years.
The total annual appropriation for the national GP system will increase from DKK 65 million to DKK 68.2 million, according to a Ministry of Finance press release.
A GP’s total income is divided into a base salary, early retirement payment and extra allowances for services performed. All these payments are increased in the new agreement.
GPs will now also receive higher payments for house calls. The finance ministry is hoping this will help ease the pressure on GPs as patients tend to be discharged from hospital sooner than in previous years.
The two parties also agreed to continue working towards better cooperation between GPs and the authorities in an effort to improve the service. These further negotiations will include areas such as the emergency call service, the cooperation board, the Cosmic IT system and insurance matters.
