“This is such a great relief,” says Hallur Hjalgrímsson Djurhuus, the founder of ‘Framtakið fyri rættinum at velja kannabis’ (The campaign for the right to choose cannabis’).

After months of collecting signatures, the party has now handed in the required 800 signatures to the Ministry of the Interior.

“We’re ready. We have one simple objective: We simply wish to legalise a harmless plant which everyone should have the right to cultivate and use,” says Djurhuus. “It is particularly important that people who need cannabis for medical purposes should be given free access to it.”

Neutral on all other issues

The new party has a neutral stance on all other political matters, and party members will be free to decide as they wish on anything not related to cannabis.

In addition to Djurhuus and co-founder Arnfinn á Birtuni, Hjalmar Zachariassen, who recently gave up his efforts to establish the new Føroyaflokkurin party, has now also announced his candidacy for the new legalise cannabis party.
