“This is a very happy day for us,” said Eydna Olsen, one of the 60 workers who returned to work yesterday. “It means a lot to us that we don’t have to leave the island to find work.”

The new owner, Óli Nattestad, who bought Sandoy Seafood for a sum between DKK 8m and DKK 10m, said he was pleased to see the gratitude from the returning staff.
“We have strong ties to Sandoy,” he said. “My roots are in Skálavík, and my wife Ann-Dorit is from Skopun, and she spent many years working at this very plant before we moved to Denmark. We would probably not have done this if it wasn’t for our ties to the village and the island.”
