Seven rescued from leaking boat

The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Service (MRCC) received a distress call on Tuesday morning from the crew of a 30-foot long boat located north of Kalsoy.
The boat had started taking in water, and the crew were doing everything they could, using buckets and other items at hand, to scoop out the water as the boat’s hand pump and two electric pumps failed to handle the sudden water load.

Despite all this effort, the boat was in danger of sinking, according to the MRCC.
All crew members wore life jackets. Six of them jumped into the boat’s emergency rubber dinghy while the captain, who owns the boat, steered the 30-footer to a nearby boat for assistance.
Guard ship to the rescue
Guard ship Brimil arrived at the scene shortly after the MRCC received the distress call and deployed its workboat, which managed to stop the leak.
All seven crew members were taken to safety on board Brimil and are no longer in danger.
The crew reported hearing a piercing noise immediately before the boat started leaking, which may indicate that the boat struck some object floating in the sea, according to the MRCC.
