Norrøna returns after DKK 100m facelift
Norrøna is now ready to resume its regular services after dry-docking in Denmark for extensive upgrades since just before Christmas.
The ferry is scheduled to depart from Hirtshals, Denmark, on Saturday when it will resume its service between Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.
Two decks have been added to the ship. One has 50 new rooms and the other, the top deck, deck 10, houses a new restaurant.
The upgrades cost Smyril Line just over DKK 100 million.
Positive outlook
Rúni Vang, CEO of Norrøna’s shipping company, Smyril Line, is bullish about the ferry’s future.
“There is great demand from tourists who want to visit the Faroe Islands and Iceland, so we are optimistic about the second half of this year and for subsequent years,” he says.
“We believe this was the right moment to make these upgrades. We are confident that our passengers will be impressed with the changes, and we are also confident that this investment will pay off.”
Vang is expecting passenger numbers to pick up within the next few months as more and more people are getting their Covid vaccinations.
Smyril Line owns an additional five cargo ships, and they have been kept busy throughout the Covid pandemic, which has helped keep the company’s finances relatively healthy through this period, he adds.
