Campaign aims to improve hiking trails

The inaugural Closed for Maintenance event in 2019 was a big success in which tourists joined locals to preserve popular tourist destinations across the Faroe Islands.
Last year’s event was postponed twice due to Covid restrictions. But now it's set to return, though in a slightly smaller format than in 2019.
Only Faroese residents will be taking part in this year’s maintenance work, which will centre on creating and improving paths between villages, repairing cairns and setting up signposting in six locations across the country.

Closed for Maintenance forms part of a wider move by Visit Faroe Islands to create a sustainable future for the Faroese tourism industry.
About 60 volunteers will be needed for this year’s campaign. You can sign up as a volunteer here.
The registration deadline is 1 April.
