Best month ever for Faroese hotels

Faroese hotels are shaking off the pandemic slump in style.
At almost 31,300, last month’s number of hotel overnight stays – a measure of the number of visitors and the duration of their stays – turned out to be the highest on record, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
The July 2021 figure was up by almost 50 percent on July 2020 and up 25 percent on the previous record high in July 2019.

The number of stays by Danish residents increased by 36 percent from July 2020 to July 2021, while the figure for residents outside the Danish Kingdom more than doubled over the same period.
Faroese residents represented just over a quarter of the total hotel overnight stays in July 2021. Over the past year, this figure has averaged between 60% and 70%.

About 75 percent of all hotel rooms were occupied last month, compared with 63,5 percent in July 2020.
The hotel room occupancy rate reached a record-high 90 percent in 2019. The all-time high figure of overnight stays in July 2021 does not translate to a record-high occupancy rate because 2020 saw a sharp increase in hotel rooms with the opening of two large hotels and expansions of many others.
