People are ”fed up” with Covid
The admirable degree of caution during the early stages of the pandemic appears to have turned into carelessness, says chief medical officer
Far too few people take the recommended follow-up test after arriving from abroad, says chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller

People in the Faroes appear to be fed up with the ongoing pandemic, and they have become complacent about the risk of infection.

This is the view of chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.

”We have examples of parents letting their children go to school despite having been advised to keep them in quarantine.”

Limited authority

This, he adds, puts the health authorities in a difficult position because they are not authorised to notify the school managements if children go to school despite having been advised to quarantine.

“The infection rate is at an all-time high, and we are still some way from achieving herd immunity through the vaccination programme,” he says.

He urges everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible as a vast majority of those infected are unvaccinated.

“It is also highly concerning that only one in five people arriving from abroad take the recommended follow-up test two days after arrival.”
