Cannabis smuggling at all-time high

Only in the past week, police have prevented 12 kilos of cannabis from entering the Faroese market, which is close to last year’s total of 16 kilos.
On Friday, Danish police seized eight kilos of cannabis from a passenger ahead of Norrøna’s departure to the Faroes. As this occurred in Denmark, the eight kilos are not included in the 27-kilo total of cannabis confiscated in the Faroes this year.
On Tuesday, a man was caught with two kilos of cannabis at Vágar Airport, and another two kilos were found when Norrøna landed in Tórshavn on Sunday.

There is a significantly higher demand for cannabis these days, says head of police investigations Heri Andreasen.
”Summertime, music festivals, ólavsøka and lots of other events create an increased demand for illegal substances, especially cannabis,” he says.
“We’re seeing much larger quantities now than in previous years.”
