Anyone can drown; no-one should
The Faroese Swimming Association is preparing a campaign to mark the World Drowning Prevention Day (WDPD) on 25 July.
With slogans such as “Anyone can drown, no-one should” and “3 per year is 3 too many”, the campaign (text in Faroese only) includes a digital map showing the locations of all drowning accidents since 2000.
Last year saw the first ever World Drowning Prevention Day, organised by the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) and the United Nations.
Global day of prevention activity
The ILS writes the following about the WDPD:
“The United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a historic resolution on global drowning prevention on 28 April 2021.
“A key element of the resolution is that it establishes a new UN-recognised World Drowning Prevention Day. All stakeholders, including governments, non- governmental organisations and their partners, are invited and encouraged to contribute to, and engage in, this global day of activity.”
