Yet another fall from ship’s gangway

It happened again. Only three weeks after a Polish sailor drowned in Tórshavn’s harbour, a sailor in Klaksvík almost suffered the same fate last night.
The man fell into the sea while boarding a fishing ship and was unable to get out of the water by himself.
Fortunately, some of his shipmates arrived at the scene shortly after. They heard his calls for help and managed to drag him out of the water.

Earlier this month, Faroese Maritime Authority Sjóvinnustýrið called on the entire shipping industry, including captains, sailors, ship owners and shipyards, to tighten their safety measures, with specific emphasis on gangways and safety nets.
As part of this safety campaign, Sjóvinnustýrið has published a set of guidelines on gangways and safety nets on its website (text in Faroese only).
