DKK 4.5m for church construction

Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of Social Affairs, has proposed that DKK 4.5 million should be earmarked for the construction of new churches this year.

Glyvrar and Argir have long been planning to build new churches, and the minister expects to formally approve these projects this year.

“This really is a step in the right direction,” says the minister.

“This is the first time since 2007, when church matters were transferred from the Danish state to the Faroese government, that funds are included in the budget for the construction of new churches.”

DKK 4.62 million has been set aside in the 2023 budget proposal for planning work related to new churches.
