17.01.2020 - 18:38

Three men are being held in custody in connection with the bust of 962 grams of amphetamines in November.

Customs officers found the drugs in question in a car on 18 November. Five men were initially arrested, but two of them were later released, while the remaining three are being held in detention until 12 February charged with drug smuggling.

Two of the three men in custody are residents of Denmark while the third is a resident of the Faroe Islands.

Minimum prison term of four years

According to chief prosecutor Linda Hesselberg, amphetamine has a street value of DKK 1,000-1,200 per gram in the Faroes, which brings the total value of the bust up to around DKK 1 million.

Hesselberg says that the minimum penalty for this level of drug smuggling is a four-year prison sentence. The sentence will be determined by a jury.

Due to ongoing police investigations, no further details are available at present.
