Salmon producer Bakkafrost has lost access to two of its biggest markets over the past two weeks.

On 10 February, Russian authorities put a temporary import ban on the company’s products, and the Coronavirus has shut down the Chinese market.

CEO Regin Jacobsen says the impact of the blockage from these two big markets is not so heavy right now, as the company can still sell all its products to other markets.

“As usual, the first quarter of the year sees our lowest product output of the year, so in that sense this is good timing because the demand from other markets is high,” he says.

According to the Faroese Food and Veterinary Authority, a delegation from the Russian health authorities will visit the Faroe Islands at an unspecified date this year.
