Some 4,770 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine are expected to arrive in the Faroes on 26 December.

“The vaccine will be rolled out in phases,” health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen said at a press conference this morning.

“Health workers and staff at elderly care institutions will be the first to be offered the vaccine, followed by residents in elderly care institutions and other vulnerable groups in the second phase.”

The plan is to start vaccinations as soon as the vaccines arrive in the country.

“As we are entitled to a share of Denmark’s EU allocation of vaccines, there will not be a long wait for the second batch,” said the minister.

“The vaccination working group will meet on 4 January to discuss the details of phase 2.”

The vaccine will be administered in two doses, with a 3-4-week gap between each dose, which means that the first batch is enough to inoculate almost 2,400 people.
