Two out of three members of the Faroese LGBT+ community say they have been bullied at school due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

In the nightlife, this figure is 47 percent, and 37 percent say they have been bullied on social media.

These figures come from a new survey carried out by LGBT+ Faroe Islands.

Hate crimes

The survey also reveals that 26 percent of the respondents (sample size not specified) have been victims of hate crimes, i.e. physical or psychological crimes motivated by a bias based on the person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

LGBT+ Faroe Islands says that despite major improvements in recent years, a lot more needs to be done regarding attitudes toward the rights of LGBT+ people.
