New accident committee “will make roads safer”

The Faroese Road Safety Council has for years been calling for a road accident committee that can investigate traffic accidents.
It started looking promising last month when the government announced plans to set funding aside for such a committee.
These plans have now turned into reality as an additional DKK 200,000 has been allocated to the council in the 2023 state budget.
Following a recent meeting between the infrastructure minister and the council, it was agreed that this money should be spent on setting up a road accident committee.

The Road Safety Council’s primary goal is that no-one should die or sustain permanent injuries on the roads.
The objective of the road accident committee is to obtain statistics and conduct research on traffic accidents for the purpose of preventing future accidents.
“A road accident committee is a crucial tool for us to improve our preventive work,” says Lovisa Petersen Glerfoss, who heads the Road Safety Council.
