Faroese CO2 emissions drop for first time in a decade
Last year was the first time in more than a decade with significantly lower carbon emissions than in the previous year

In 2022, carbon emissions in the Faroes fell by 6 percent compared to 2021.

This is the first time in more than ten years that carbon emissions have fallen significantly, according to the Faroese Environment Agency.

The main reason is that more electricity came from renewable energy sources in 2022 than in 2021.

Households used 9 percent less oil and vehicles used 4 percent less oil.

If bunkering by foreign ships is included in the figures, emissions were 14 percent lower than in 2021.

Foreign ships purchased 42 percent less oil in the Faroes last year than in 2021.
