New York flights less popular than expected

There was a great deal of excitement when Atlantic Airways announced its direct flights to New York this spring.
However, the initial hype did not result in the anticipated level of demand.
As a consequence, the airline is cutting two of its seven autumn departures to New York.
There are several possible reasons for this lacklustre demand, according to Atlantic Airways CEO Jóhanna á Bergi.

“One reason may be that we did not receive all the required authorisations to fly to New York until May, by which time many people may have already made their summer and autumn holiday plans,” she says.
“And, as we began selling tickets to New York, we sent ten full planes to Berlin in connection with the Faroese participation in the handball championships there. I’m sure that this diverted some potential passengers away from our New York flights."
