Marine Harvest can now export to Russia

Marine Harvest Faroes has been given the go-ahead to export salmon to the nations in the Eurasian Economic Union: Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

The company recently applied to the Faroese Food and Veterinary Agency for permission to add its new gutting factory in Strendur to the EAEU list.

For a Faroese firm to be allowed to export food to the EAEU region, the Food and Veterinary Agency must first ensure that the firm is authorised in the Faroes and then prove to the Russian veterinary authorities that the firm meets all EAEU requirements.

Hans Jákup Mikkelsen, CEO of Marine Harvest Faroes, says that the first shipment of farmed salmon will soon be heading towards Russia.

Seventy-five Faroese companies have received authorisation to export food to EU nations. Of these, 28 have been granted permission to export from the Faroes to Russia.
