Sports hall dispute settled

The Ministry of Finance has been threatening City Councillors in Vágur with a fine for neglecting their legal obligations.

They were accused of not including the Marghøllin multisports hall in the 2019 council budget, which the finance ministry argues they are legally required to do.
But now the dispute has been settled, as Vágur City Council yesterday agreed to take over the running of the Marghøllin.
Independent institution
The sports hall, previously owned by Vágs Ítróttarráð (local sports council), is now to be considered as a self-governing municipal institution.

Having also taken over the running of the Páls høll swimming hall last year, the City Council’s net debt now exceeds the original estimate.
This does not, however, force the council to revise its 2019 budget, since the existing DKK 1m rental agreement with Vágs Ítróttarráð is expected to cover maintenance costs.
No fines for councillors
The Ministry of Finance last week called on the Ministry of Health and the Interior to issue fines to seven City Councillors in Vágur for approving the 2019 budget without including the Marghøllin in the budget.
However, the fines were never issued, because the Ministry of Health and the Interior was awaiting the result of last night’s council meeting.
