The Faroes played much better against Romania than in last week’s poor showing against Malta.

When the Faroese players had possession, the team showed what they are capable of when they are at their best.

But mistakes in the defence proved costly last night, and a six-minute period in the first half proved decisive.

Goals start rolling in

After 26 minutes, Ciprian Deac made it 1-0. Three minutes later, Claudio Keseru increased the Romanians’ lead to 2-0, and then again to 3-0 in the 33th minute.

All these goals came as a result of Faroese errors in defence.

Shortly before half time, however, the Faroes were awarded a penalty, which was duly stroked home by Viljormur Davidsen to make it 3-1.

Missed chances

The Faroes had a few chances at goal in the second half, but Romanian keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu made all the right saves.

The last nail in the coffin came after 63 minutes when George Puscas sealed the score at 4-1.

Faroese coach Lars Olsen said after the game that his team played well at times, but that the mistakes proved too costly.
