Shut up and drive

The Road Safety Council wants motorists to stop engaging in distractive activities when driving.
The campaign, named ‘Tig og koyr’ (Shut up and drive), is particularly aimed at the use of mobile phones while driving.
As part of the campaign, the police will be examining mobile phone use on the roads over the next three weeks.
Scarce statistics
No official figures are available on the number of traffic accidents caused by careless driving.
However, in a Gallup poll, commissioned by the Road Safety Council, 85 percent of the poll participants said that carelessness is a crucial element in serious traffic accidents.
More than one in six of the participants admitted that they speak on their mobile phone while driving, at least two to four times a week.
Lollipops with a message
As part of the campaign, the Road Safety Council has made special lollipops with the ‘tig og koyr’ message printed on.
“The lollipops are a bit tongue-in-cheek, so to speak. You put the lollipop in your mouth when you enter your car, and then you can’t really speak much,” says Lovisa Petersen Glerfoss, the head of the Road Safety Council.
Fifteen municipalities have joined the campaign and will be helping to spread the message by handing out lollipops and stickers.
