Rapist sent to jail

The man is charged with raping a woman in a cabin on passenger ferry Norröna in February 2017 and raping another woman in Tórshavn in March 2018.

He is also accused of assault and battery against the latter woman prior to the alleged rape, as well as having sent her two friend requests on Snapchat last year despite having received a restraining order.

At last week’s court hearing, he was cleared of the rape charge against the woman in Tórshavn but was sentenced on the other three charges, and the judge handed him a one-year prison term.

The man, who maintains his innocence on the rape charges, requested a 14-day period to review the sentence.
